I'm so indie rock!

You Are 68% Indie

You're a very indie person, and admit it, you look down a little on people who strive to be normal.

You'll indulge in a little mainstream pop culture every now and then. But for you, anything not indie is a guilty pleasure!

It's true. Even my hair is indie rock now! *L*

Hello from the Green Mountain State!

Hello Everyone! I thought I'd give a mid-week check in while I'm at the library checking my email. Yes, I know, the whole point was to go a whole week with out all of the distractions of my normal life, and a whole week with out the Internet. I just can't do it though! I'm weak, I know.

Everything is good here. I'm enjoying my time at home. I really did need this chance to just get away from everything & think for a while. I still have a lot of thinking to do, but I'm getting there. It's been really good for me.
The weather has been the only think that's not so wonderful. It's been rainy and gray the whole week. :( I did get to see the stars on Saturday night though, so that made me happy!
Other things also checked off of my list of Things To Do While In Vermont:
Go to Rocket J's & get a Cheddar Dog & Fries. Put salt & vinegar on fries, consume. (This quest may be completed more than once, and probably will.)
Buy some Magic Hat Beer, drink it. (This quest may also be completed more than once, and has.)
Buy some Long Trail Blackberry Wheat (seasonal beer), drink it. (This quest may also be completed more than once, and has.)
Hang out with Tiff.
Go to Burlington, walk around Church Street.
Go to Star Root, get custom mixed fragrance.
Go to Bove's, get a huge bowl of pasta, enjoy.
Walk around downtown Northfield. (Started at least, I'll walk around some more after I leave the library.)
Sit outside and relax.

I still have things to do, but the week is only half over, so I'm confident I'll get them done!
I've really enjoyed having the mountains all around me, & the nice, fresh, green smell of everything. I don't want to ever leave! Then again, it'll be nice to get back home to the city! I miss my family. (And my computer! But I miss my family more, honest!) I should end now, my time is almost up. I'll try to write more about my wonderful trip when I get home.

Ah, to be 17 again part 1 - high school love

The velvety darkness of night fell
With my doubts
And our clothes
We made our promises
By the light of the moon
And gave each other all we had
ourselves
(1996)

Sunrise
The sun rose
Outside
The window
And in my eyes
And I looked at you
As if for the first time
And saw the light
In your eyes too
And I knew the sun would never set
That you
Would be my light
Forever
(1996)

Life
It was the morning after
Life
Only I didnt die today
When the sun rose
And I thought
This is a day to remember
The day I was alive
And the sun didn't burn
And neither did the pain
And the night wasn't so cold
Because I knew
You love me
(1996)

Breakfast
I ate a hash brown
And told you I loved you
And you asked me
Did I ever eat
And I said yes
Sometimes
And I knew
You loved me
As you smiled
And drank your
orange juice
(1996)

You touched my hand
You touched my heart
And we flew
Together
Dancing in the stars
You and I
(1996)

Reality
Am I real?
Am I alive?
Should I care?
Should I strive?
Is my reflection really me?
Am I really what you see?
If I touch my hand to yours
Will I feel as I did before?
Is this love ours to keep?
Do you see me in your sleep?
Are you the one to make me whole?
Are you the one to touch my soul?
Please be the one to make me feel
Please be the one to make me real
(96/97)

tame me
name me
turn me into something beautiful pure new
hold me
mold me
shape me
as strong as the mountains soft as the valleys
in me
win me
awake my mind body soul
mark me
spark me
set fire to my heart cool down my spirit
show me
know me
take me to another time place life
mend me
defend me
fix this broken heart hear these broken words
(96/97)

I smiled this morning
Into my Lucky Charms
Remembering
We used to eat them together
Everyday
And never wanted anything more
(Fall, 1997)

To be that idealistic & hopefull again!

Ah, to be 17 again part 2 - teen-age angst

Dance of the Demons
They came back last night
To sit on my bed
They came back last night
To take me for dead
Demons dancing in my head
Singing in my mind
Demons dancing in my head
Say "Come, be of our kind"
Don't want the dark to come
They come with the fleeing of light
Don't want the dark to come
I won't get any sleep tonight
(96/97)

Demon eyes
if you look closely
in my eyes
you can see
the demons
that haunt me
that drive me
from me
that make me
want to end it all
so I can finally
get some
sleep
(96/97)

Momma
Momma, sit up with me tonight
I don't want to sleep
The monster in my closet moved
Into my head
And he won't go away
Momma, sit up with me tonight
I don't want to dream
Shadowy spider webs trap me
In their world
Where I always die
Momma, sit up with me tonight
I don't want to cry
(96/97)

Empty
Fell out of my shell again
Hurry
Pick up the pieces
Before somebody notices
And if they don't all fit
Well it's okay
I can do without
And if I put it all together wrong
Well that's okay too
At least I'm whole again
Fell out of my shell again
Better pick up the pieces
Before I notice
(96/97)

Eyes Sewn Shut
Mother, open your eyes,
Father, is it such a big surprise?
That I turned out this way,
That I'm not okay?
When you said I'd be a loser, an embarrassment to you,
After all those years, how could I not think it true?
A little faith was all I was needing,
And maybe my heart wouldn't be bleeding
I had to find my solace somehow,
Drugs and alcohol showed me how.
Life is a game I cannot win,
Although I may give up, I will not give in.
To your ideals and society's way,
What I feel is what I will say.
Because you had no faith, because you didn't believe,
Neither did I, and it is pain that I leave.
If you ever cared why didn't you say so?
Then maybe this wouldn't be the path I would have to go.
(96/97)
(Although the rest are all from my emotions/ experiences, this one has a large strand of truth at it's center, but is exaggerated a bit.)

Meta
Fading into the light
I lost my darkness somewhere
Tried to get it back
Found myself in nowhere
Slipped into the sun
Could not find a raindrop
Without the pouring water
Somehow felt my soul drop
Pulled off my star
Free falling in this lost space
Where is my shadowy comfort?
Need to find my own space
(96/97)

Stone
Harsh fluorescent light
From dull dusty lips
Hard cracked cement
Forms hand, feet, hips
Not all that special
Guess after all I'm like the rest
Just a rusty piece of metal
Far from the best
Mind made of brick
Heart made of stone
Is it any wonder
That I feel alone?
(96/97)

Wow! Everything seemed so much larger back then, didn't it? It seems like there really wasn't a lot of middle ground. Everything was either great, or terrible. I'm glad I've found some balance since then! I'm also glad to have learned that a poem doesn't have to rhyme to be good!

Where the jobs are in Central Vermont? or Why I don't live in VT

Where the jobs are in Central Vermont
Or perhaps, where the jobs aren't in Central Vermont.

Montpelier is the municipality that hosts the largest number of jobs in Central Vermont, but Berlin can make a case for "region's largest employment" community.
Berlin has ousted Barre City as the municipality with the second most jobs, and its ratio of jobs to residents far exceeds Montpelier's.
Overall, Central Vermont has a job for every two residents. Berlin has 3.6 jobs for every two residents, or 3.6 times the regional average. Montpelier has 2.2 jobs for every two residents, and is the only other municipality with more jobs than residents.
Northfield and Barre Town each have just over 1,800 jobs, but both are well below the regional average of jobs to residents.

As a side note, there are 1,800 jobs in Northfield, but 5,756 residents. Even once you factor in children and retired residents, you still get more residents than available jobs.

This is why I am not going to be moving back home anytime soon, despite the fact that I miss Vermont terribly.I'm so homesick for the mountains, the fresh air, the little ice cold streams, the fresh air, the people, being able to see the stars, and so many other things. Someday...

Things I like!

Good Morning! Welcome to Things I Like! In this brand new, possibly semi-regular feature, I'm going to just randomly slap up thinks I like, websites, pictures, words that I think should be used more often, or anything else that amuses my poor sleep addled brain! Enjoy!

Today in Things I Like - t-shirts from b-offensive.com, and a couple of words that I think should get more use!

T-Shirts I like, but would probably never wear:

More things I like!

Some words that are delightful to use:

-rumble (as in fight)

-cockamamie

-shenanigans

-dodgy

And the big winner of the day goes to-
sheeple!
Since most of you are probably thinking What the hell is a sheeple right now, here it is in a sentence, as I first saw it, on b-offensive's website
"Since the vast majority of the American populace is comprised of blathering idiots, we've made four "Amendment T-shirts" to highlight to the sheeple what we believe to be some of our (and their) greatest rights."
And the definition, courtesy of
Google and Wiki:

Sheeple is a term of disparagement, created by combining the words "sheep" and "people." It implies that those people it references believe whatever they are told, without processing it to be sure that it is an accurate representation of the real world around them. The term can be applied to any group, often in a political or comedic sense.

And some quotes I happened upon that I like-

"Everything great and intelligent is in the minority."
-Goethe

"What a distressing contrast between the radiant intelligence of the child and the feeble mentality of the average adult." -Freud

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with senses, reason, and intellect, has intended us to forgo their use..."
-Galileo

NYC Mayor Advocates U.S. Worker Database

NYC Mayor Advocates U.S. Worker Database

May 24 6:49 PM US/Eastern

By SARA KUGLER
Associated Press Writer

Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg thrust himself into the national immigration debate Wednesday, advocating a plan that would establish a DNA or fingerprint database to track and verify all legal U.S. workers.

In an editorial for The Wall Street Journal and two nationally televised interviews, the mayor reiterated his long-standing belief that the 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States should be given the opportunity for citizenship, saying that deporting them is impossible and would devastate the economy.

Aides said that the editorial was his idea and that CNN and Fox News approached him to discuss his views on the air.

In the article and on air, Bloomberg slammed lawmakers who want to deport all illegal immigrants, saying on Fox News that "they are living in a fantasy world."

Bloomberg compared his proposed federal identification database to the Social Security card, insisting that such a system would not violate citizens' privacy and was not a civil liberties issue.

"You don't have to work _ but if you want to work for a company you have to have a Social Security card," he said. "The difference is, in the day and age when everybody's got a PC on their desk with Photoshop that can replicate anything, it's become a joke."

The mayor said DNA and fingerprint technology could be used to create a worker ID database that will "uniquely identify the person" applying for a job, ensuring that cards are not illegally transferred or forged.

Donna Lieberman, director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said a DNA or fingerprint database "doesn't sound like the free society we think we're living in."

"It will inevitably be used not just by employers but by law enforcement, government agencies, schools and all over the private sector," she said.

I can understand where Mayor Bloomburg is coming from, but I have to say that I agree with Donna Lieberman. The implications of this are downright scary.

Poetry

She's too old to be brave
anymore
life is too uncertain
things move too quickly
she doesn't understand
the way things move these days
so she stays
in her empty life
in her loveless home
because it's the life she knows
it may be devoid of happiness
but it's hers
and it's consistent
and she's not so young anymore
she doesn't realize
that it's never too late
to start over

this tortured soul
that walks in invisible tears
all shades of gray
always in shadows
never in the sun
nor in the safety of true black
I'm unforgiven
by the one that matters most
myself
I can not put these ghosts to rest
I don't know how
to slay them where they sleep
I don't know how
to control them when they wake
I drown here over and over
in the guilt and pain
waiting for the shadows
to swallow me whole

The RPG Class Test

Mystic Theurge
33 Combativeness, 26 Sneakiness, 79 Intellect, 61 Spirituality
Brilliant and spiritual! You are a Mystic Theurge!

Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after you've fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you're an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't.

The Mystic Theurge is a combination of a cleric and a mage. They can cast both arcane and divine spells, and are good at both, making them pretty terrifying on the battlefield. They have more raw spellpower than just about any other class.

You're both intelligent and faithful, but not violent or deceitful. I guess that makes you a pretty good person.

Where are questions 22- 28?
Last night, they learned the hard way the great ideas you get when drink are rarely that great. They're going to be out of comission for a little bit.

34. What did you fear was going to get you at night as a child?
The Bad Man who would tickle me to death, or a poltergiest from my mirror. (Hey you, laughing at that. Yes, I can see you there, Asshole. The Bad Tickling Man was a very terrifying recurring nightmare I had as a child, so piss off!)

35. What's in your pockets right now?

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.

You used to wear those stick on earrings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes.

You remember a time before the WB.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You know the Macarena by heart."

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

When light up sneakers were cool.

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.

When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our Walkmans.

When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

Way back. Before we realized all this would eventually disappear. Who would have thought you'd miss the 90's so much!!!!!

Thanks Alex for posting this on my bulletin! I would also like to add-

-Scented plastic Strawberry Shortcake dolls

-Champion sweatshirts, Umbro shorts, and Adidas sneakers

-When cereal came with prizes

-You still remember the hand signs to MC Hammer's 2 Ligit

Okay, who wants to play? What else do you remember?

Have you ever?

Taken a picture naked?
-Just a picture? Just one? No, I have never taken a picture naked!

Made out with a member of the same sex?
-Not yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean I wont!

Told a lie?
- If I said no would you believe me?

Had a one night stand?
- Not technically. At least, I don't think so...

Been in a fist fight?
- Nope. The closest I've come is an overly aggressive chest pass with a basketball. Yes, this was in high school gym class!

Had feelings for someone who didn't have them back?
- Hasn't everyone?

Been arrested?
- I wish I had done a few more 'crazy' things in high school so that I had some funny story to put here. The best I can do is the time I almost went swimming in the town pool in the middle of the night that one time.

Ditched school to have sex?
- My senior year I ditched school all the freakin' time. That was just one of my better reasons! (I would usually go in for my 'real' classes in the morning. I'd just leave at 11. It's not like I was learning anything anyway!)

Slept in a bed with a member of the same sex?
- Yeah. I didn't know this was something all that shocking though. It's not like anything actually happened!

Seen someone die?
- Actually die? No. I have seen people who where in their final hours however.

Laid on your back and watched cloud shapes go by?
- As recently as yesterday in fact.

Played dress up?
- Not in quite a while. I think I may feel a Gothic Dress Up night coming on!

Fallen asleep at work/school
- As recently as a couple of hours ago in fact!

Touched a snake?
- Touched, held, let crawl all over me... I did draw the line at feeding it though!

Pole danced?
- Until I have a pole in the privacy of my own home it's not gonna happen! (Although, honestly, I'd kinda like to learn!)

Been lost?
-Can I quote Leah on this one? "Not lost, just misplaced for a moment."

Sang karaoke?
- We shall not speak of that night.

Done something you told yourself you wouldn't?
- Anyone who says no to this question is a lying.

Laughed until something you were drinking came out your nose?
- Yup. Soda is the worst.

Kissed in the rain?
- I'm sure I must have, but I can't quite recall. *makes a mental note to do this as soon as possible, just to be on the safe side*

Sang in the shower?
- I do this often, loudly, poorly, and unapologetically!

Gave your private parts a nickname?
- I haven't, but that doesn't mean they've gone nickname-less!

Ever gone to school without underwear?
- Probably.

Sat on a roof top?
- Yup.

Broken a bone?
- Nope

Mooned/flashed someone?
- You know, I don't think so!

Slept naked?
- I do most of the time

Played a prank on someone?
- Yup. I'm especially proud of the 'ring in the toilet' incident with Rhonda, and taping up Chris's office door. Oh, and of course the 'Princess' incident. I wasn't there for that one, but I can take full credit for the idea!

Made your girlfriend/boyfriend cry?
- Unfortunately

Cried over someone?
- Yup

Had sex more than 10 times in one day?
- 10?! I think my personal best is 8

Had/Have a dog?
- When I was really little we had a German Shepard named Jena.

Been in a band or played an instrument?
- Not yet, but I'm going to learn to play the cello. (Soon, I swear!)

Taken more than 10 shots of alcohol in one night?
- Not in shot form, but I've certainly had more than 10 shots worth of whiskey in one night!

simple huh?
now you do it
post it on your blog, or your bulletin, or where ever!

The Keirsey Bates MBTI personality test

INTP - the Architect
You scored 0% I to E, 42% N to S, 52% F to T, and 68% J to P!

You are more introverted than extroverted. You are more intuitive than observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you prefer to go with the flow rather than have a routine. The single word to describe your type is the Architect, which belongs to the larger group of rationals. You wish to sculpt the world around you. Others often find you arrogant, yet you have no desire to direct others, only to inform them. You must know the structure of things, and have a voracious appetite for knowledge. You are very rational in everything you do, and probably consider yourself smarter than most.

As a romantic partner, you can be playful with great energy to get things started, but not quite as good on follow through. You may have a tendency to hurt the more emotional types unintentionally by not sharing your own reactions and feelings as you can get swept up in your own ideas and projects. You want to be appreciated for your ability to respond quickly and to fix problems creatively. You need plenty of time to yourself - therefore your parnter must respect your need for independence and originality.

Your group summary: Rationals (NT)

Your type summary: INTP

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 0% on I to E

You scored higher than 52% on N to S

You scored higher than 71% on F to T

You scored higher than 82% on J to P
